Choose the occasion, who it’s for and the tone you want. The builder writes three versions you can copy and personalize.

How this calculator works

Each message follows the structure that makes notes feel sincere: a clear opening that names the occasion, a specific detail, a line about what it meant to you, and a closing that fits your relationship.

Our editors wrote every phrase in the builder. Add the gift, favor or news in the “detail” box, then click “Write new versions” until one sounds right. Sympathy and apology notes never use the joking tone.

Tips

  • Mention something specific: how you’ll use the gift, or what their help changed.
  • Send thank-you notes within two weeks when you can; late is still better than never.
  • Handwrite notes for gifts, interviews and sympathy when possible.
  • Read the message out loud; if it doesn’t sound like you, change a word or two.

Frequently asked questions

What should I write in a thank-you card?

Greet the person by name, thank them for the specific gift or favor, say how you will use it or what it meant, and close warmly.

How do I write a sympathy message?

Keep it short and sincere: acknowledge the loss, offer support, and avoid explaining or minimizing it. “I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m here for you” is enough.

Is it okay to use a template?

Yes, as a starting point. Change at least one detail so the message is clearly from you.
